WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF THIS CONTEST? Most songwriters know that it is hard to make a living in music. Songwriters who do not have publishing deals are responsible for recording their own songs, or else there is no way to pitch them to artists and get cuts on records. That can get very expensive if they do not own their own studio. And even if a songwriter has their own recording gear, they are often better at writing than they are at playing, singing, engineering, or mixing. In the music industry, song demos are becoming increasingly more produced and competitive, which puts a songwriter with a lesser quality song demo at a disadvantage. Therefore, the grand prize winner of the POSITIVE POP SONG CONTEST will end up with a MASTER QUALITY RECORDING of one of their songs to give them a boost in their songwriting career. Additionally, Worldwide Groove Corporation will pass the winning song along to several industry contacts, including EMI who will evaluate the song and consider it for a publishing deal which will hopefully lead to future success for the winning songwriter. ALSO having a one year membership to TAXI will be an extremely educational and helpful experience. Read more on the PRIZES PAGE. You may either register online through Paypal and mail us your entry later, or you may send it all in at once with your entry form. CLICK
HERE TO DOWNLOAD PRINTABLE ENTRY FORM. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER? Entry fee is $25. Final entry deadline is 7/31/05. CAN I ENTER MORE THAN ONE SONG? Of course. Each song should be on a different CD or audio cassette. And you must pay one entry fee for each song. MUST I GO TO NASHVILLE TO GET THE GRAND PRIZE? Not really. We can mail the guitar and accessories to you, and you can claim your TAXI membership from wherever you are. GMA has academy events at different locations around the country, so you might be able to find one in your area. As for having your song produced by Worldwide Groove Corporation, they are accustomed to working with clients who are out of town, and can still do an excellent job of producing your song for you, including mixing at the Sound Kitchen, one of the regions best recording and mixing facilities. The only issue might be if you want to sing the vocal yourself, in which case, you would want to come to Nashville. Positive Rhythms radio can still showcase your song no matter where you are. WHEN WILL I HAVE MY SONG PRODUCED IF I WIN? Worldwide Groove Corporation are totally flexible and can work with you around your schedule. No dates have been booked at any of the sponsoring studios. WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT? We accept personal checks, cashier's checks, money orders, Visa and Master Card, and Paypal. Please do not send cash. HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY SONG ARRIVES? The Positive Pop Song Contest will notify you by email when they receive your entry if you have provided your email address. CAN I SEND A CD WITH AN MP3 OR WAV FILE? We will accept audio CD's as well as CD's with mp3, wav, or aiff files. We also accept audio cassettes. Please do not email any audio files. CAN I EMAIL MY SONG AND LYRICS? We are now accepting online submissions through Sonicbids.com, find out more by clicking the Sonicbids logo below. Please be aware that only entries submitted via U.S. mail with a self addressed stamped envelope are eligible to receive the judges critique sheets and Pop Rocks Candy. CAN I KNOW WHAT THE JUDGES THOUGHT OF MY SONG? Each judge will fill out an evaluation sheet of the song, assigning points to various aspects of the song. There will be space for additional comments, and it is up to the judge if he/she writes anything else. As long as you enter via U.S. mail and send us a self addressed stamped envelope, we will send you your critique sheets along with the list of winners after all decisions have been made. WHY ARE WE LIMITED TO "POSITIVE POP"? The Positive Pop Song Contest will accept all musical styles, but we want to encourage songwriters to compose songs that have a positive impact on their listeners. PLEASE SEND US ROCK, COUNTRY, HIP HOP, JAZZ ETC. We love ALL MUSICAL STYLES! Read our description of what is and what is not positive pop ON THE ABOUT PAGE. HOW GOOD DOES THE RECORDING NEED TO BE? You do not need to have a master quality recording of your song. The production of your demo will have no affect on the ratings your song is given. If all you have is a cassette recorder and acoustic guitar, that's fine. Just make sure the recording is a clear representation of your song. The only other consideration is that if you should be one of the 15 winners who receives digital distribution, the recording you submitted is what will be distributed. WHO ARE WORLDWIDE GROOVE CORPORATION? WGC are a music production team specializing in artist development, pop music and string arranging. They've done work for major record labels as well as for several other creative production companies. WGC's music has been nationally awarded, featured on radio and television, presented at international arts festivals, and sold on 4 continents. They have relationships with established companies in L.A., New York, Chicago, and Nashville. They focus primarily on pop music, but have extensive experience at producing music in many other styles. IF I GET DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION, WILL I LOSE THE RIGHTS TO MY SONG? No. The Positive Pop Song Contest will only put the recording of the song on this one compilation project for the purpose of digital distribution. This is a non-exclusive agreement, and the songwriter is free to pursue any other distribution agreements with other companies. WHY IS IT ONLY "POSSIBLE" PUBLISHING OF MY SONG? EMI wants to be sure they think the song has potential before they fully commit to giving it a publishing contract. They COULD say they would definitely publish the song, but a publishing contract is only a good thing if the publisher plans to pitch the song for artists to potentially record it. Otherwise the contract is not only meaningless, but detrimental since it would tie up your song needlessly and keep you from being able to do much with it. So you only want EMI to sign the song if they will actually do something with it. And that is up to them. WHAT ABOUT COPYRIGHT PROTECTING MY SONG? Copyright law states that as soon as your song is affixed to some type of medium such as paper, or recording, it is automatically copyrighted. You will retain all copyrights to your song. It is recommended you put copyright notice [© Songwriter Name 2005 ] on your recording and lyric sheet. But you need not worry about any of the judges stealing your song. It is not necessary, but if you really want to make sure you're protected, you may register your song officially through the U.S. COPYRIGHT OFFICE. WHAT IF MY SONG IS COUNTRY OR SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES POP? "Positive Pop" just has a ring to it. But this contest is open to songs of all genres of music: country, rock, jazz etc. The only requirement is that the lyric fit the description of POSITIVE POP. |
